An engagement photo shoot captures the love, excitement, and commitment of a couple as they prepare to embark on their journey together. These sessions provide an opportunity for the couple to express their unique bond in a visually captivating way. An engagement photo shoot can be more than just a prelude to the wedding; they can serve as a time for the couple to get comfortable in front of the camera and build a relationship with their photographer.
Photos often contain a mix of posed and candid shots to encapsulate the genuine emotions and connection between the couple. If you’ve never done a photo shoot before, it can be a little nerve racking at first. Don’t Fret! Thats where your photographer steps in.
Before jumping right into it, spend some time getting to know your photographer better. Take a walk around the area and spend a couple minutes chatting about the day each of you had. This usually can lead to other topics to talk about, and slowly you become much more comfortably with each other than you were when you first arrived. This can make a HUGE difference in the photos you take.
If your feeling uncomfortable, your body tends to stiffen up and your photo’s will reflect just that. Take a deep breath, take in this beautiful moment with your loved one and relax.
MOVEMENT IS KEY! Your photographer will most likely give you prompts to follow which can often be really fun if you allow it to be. Some of my favorite prompts to use are ” hold hands and walk towards me like you both are walking home from the bar drunk”. This one is a silly one to do and you can usually get some really good laughing photos from it. Another one would be “swing dance aggressively”. Not with anger but with extreme and very pronounced movements. For more posing ideas check out https://www.theknot.com/content/couple-poses
Just keep moving. Follow the prompts your photographer gives you and add your own little twists to it. Make it into a game with your partner and have a good time. Remember to stay in the present and take it all in. Its not every day you get to frolic around in a field while someone photographs all your silly and genuine emotions with the love of your life.
